Sarah Baker loves to work in her yard and the results glow an all natural beauty.
Baker’s home is perched at the corner of Nance and Purcell Streets in Newberry and she enjoys talking about her yard and her favorite features.
The home was recommended by an anonymous fan who says that Baker’s yard is always so well-kept and taken care of. The fan goes as far to say that it’s not tacky at all, but just taken care of and it shows.
In fact, Baker says that people do come up to her complimenting her on her yard, including Judge William Partridge who she says compliments her on her maintenance.
Baker says that while she enjoys gardening, she has had to learn tips and tricks for keeping her yard and plants looking nice.
She also explains that her yard took years of work and was not an overnight success.
“When I moved her, there was nothing here,” says Baker, who explains that she grew all of the plants around her home and did her own landscaping.
She says she wanted an “eco-balanced” yard.
When asked about some favorite plants, she could go on and on.
She enjoys the Dusty Miller, which stays a silver-white shade and goes well with brightly colored blossoms, she points out. She also enjoys irises, mums, azaleas and many more.
Whatever she has, she makes sure she takes care of it all and loves to share tips with others so that their yards prosper.
For instance, she points out that people should not water the face of the flower but at the base and also petunias hate the sun.
She relates stories of people who tell her about their dying plants and says that people need to learn what maintenance is needed.
“You need to know what to plant where so that it will glow and bloom,” Baker points out.
As for some favorite spots to shop, she enjoys Wicker’s Nursery and Lowes. She also visits nurseries along the back road, as she calls it where there are many to be found.
“I just love working in the yard,” says Baker.
