Newberry will travel to continue its rival with Chapin on Friday.

The two teams have played a series rivalry for years and it will continue on Friday.

But this year the teams will be playing on new turf, literally. Chapin has just put down new turf on its field but Newberry coach Phil Strickland says it will not effect play as the new turf is much like playing on grass.

However, the Bulldogs will have to beat Chapin because Chapin does not beat themselves, said Strickland.

Newberry will also have to stick to its game plan and hold on to the football.

“We do not need to do stupid stuff,” said Strickland.

But he adds that Chapin has more talent than last year’s team that gave Newberry a run for its money.

“They are a better team,” said Strickland.

While at Newberry, Strickland is one and one against Chapin.

“We have to show up to play,” he added.
