Newberry College head wrestling coach Jason Valek has been appointed to the NCAA Division II Wrestling Comittee as recently announced by the national office.
Valek’s service on the committee began earlier this month and he will serve through September of 2016. Valek is also the president of the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association and has been elected to the Board of Directors for the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
Entering his eighth season at the helm of the Newberry wrestling program and its seventh as an NCAA Division II program, Valek has led the Wolves from infancy to their current powerhouse status. Newberry has won the last five Super Region I championships, finished in the top eight at the NCAA Division II National Tournament for five straight seasons and finished in the top four at the last four NWCA National Duals tournaments.
The scarlet and gray have posted a 115-29-2 (.795) dual record as an NCAA program and have had 26 NCAA Division II All-Americans and three Division II National Champions in six seasons.
