Newberry College head women’s lacrosse coach Emily Bikowski has announced the hiring of Kristin Marchese as the Wolves’ new assistant coach.
“Kristin brings a positive and hardworking attitude that is contagious and her lacrosse knowledge will help elevate our program,” Bikowski said. “I am very excited to have coach Marchese on board for this year.”
Marchese will also serve as the Intramural Coordinator for Newberry College.
Marchese joins Newberry after serving as an assistant girls varsity lacrosse coach at The Lovett School in Atlanta. At The Lovett School, Marchese also served as the head coach of the Lions’ middle school squad. The varsity Lions finished 2012 with an 8-11-1 record, while the Marchese lead middle school team finished the year 9-2 and managed to string together nine-straight wins during the season.
“I am very excited to be a part of the Newberry women’s lacrosse program,” Marchese said. “I am thankful to have the opportunity to coach at the collegiate level. I’m really looking forward to the season and helping the team be as successful as they can.”
During the 2012 season The Lovett School’s varsity squad saw one student-athlete named to the all-state second team, while three were honored as all-area selections.
Marchese, previously was a member of the University of South Carolina club women’s lacrosse team. At South Carolina, Marchese was named 2007 All-Southeastern Women’s Lacrosse League. In 2007 and 2008, Marchese served as the team captain before being named the vice-president of the club women’s lacrosse team during the 2008-09 season.
Prior to joining the Gamecocks club lacrosse side, Marchese starred as an attacker for Harrison High School in Kennesaw, Ga., earning All-American honors as a senior. During her senior season, Marchese was also honored as one of three Hoyas named to the GaSports.com Georgia Girls Lacrosse All-State First Team. The 2005 season also saw Marchese named Cobb County All-State and Cobb County Women’s Lacrosse Athlete of the Year.
A Dean’s List member at the University of South Carolina, Marchese graduated in 2009 with a degree in Sport and Entertainment Management. During the end of her final year at South Carolina, Marchese served as a Marketing and Sales Intern for the Vanderbilt University athletics department in Nashville. Upon graduating Marchese joined the season ticket sales department in Glendale, Arizona with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals.
