Whitmire Community’s gymnasium was filled with plenty of Whitmire spirit.

That’s because the Whitmire High cheerleaders held their annual cheer camp for the young girls wanting to learn some basic cheer moves and dances.

Girls from four to 12 years were divided into separate age groups as the varsity and middle school cheerleaders lead the girls to learn moves, cheers and how to scream loudly as if they were at a football game.

The practice will come in handy as the young cheerleaders will be able to show off what they have learned at the Sept. 28 home game as the Wolverines take on Ware Shoals that night.

Before the game, there will also be a pep rally for the pre-kindergarten through fifth graders.

The cheerleading coach, Gwen Clark, says that is one of the best pep rallies because there is so much spirit.

Clark has been in charge of the cheer camp for 22 years now and she’s actually on her second generation of cheerleaders.

In fact, there were many young mothers who Clark taught or coached who brought their young girls to camp.

The cheer camp is the Whitmire High cheerleaders annual fundraiser.

The girls shouted cheers that echoed across the gymnasium while Clark and some parents stood on the sidelines also cheering on the girls.
