The Newberry High School Bulldogs will travel to up above Greenville to take on the Berea Bulldogs on Friday.
The two teams have not faced each other in decades, says Newberry coach Phil Strickland.
“It is a program that we don’t know a whole lot about,” said Strickland, adding the last time the two teams met was in the 1970’s.
What he does know is that the Berea Bulldogs run a spread formation.
The Berea team is 1-1 on the years with a 47-6 loss to Carolina Academy in its first game. But the Berea Bulldogs came back to defeat Powdersville in a close 20-14 match on Friday.
After winning its first game over Ware Shoals, the Newberry Bulldogs lost to Clinton last week.
“We are looking to get back on the winning track,” said Strickland.
Strickland adds he will continue to rotate three quarterbacks into the game again on Friday.
Several Newberry players are suffering with pulled hamstrings but Strickland hopes they are all ready to play ball on Friday.
