The Whitmire girls’ basketball team had its season come to a close with a 58-40 loss last night at Hunter-Kinard-Tyler in the second round of the Class A Upper State playoffs.
Senior forward Kim Geyer was named Class A All-State this season.
Central routs ‘Dogs in opening round
The Newberry boys’ basketball team saw its up-and-down season conclude Wednesday with a 80-57 loss at Central Pageland in the opening round of the Class AA Upper State playoffs.
Gary Rouse led the ‘Dogs in the playoff game with 14 points.
NA boys, girls begin Upper State run
The Newberry Academy girls’ and boys’ basketball teams open play in the Class A state playoffs this weekend.
The Eagle girls earned the fourth-seed in the Upper State bracket and will face Coastal Christian today at 3:30 p.m. at ECCOS. The winner of that game will play the victor between top-seed Wardlaw Academy and Covenant Classical Christian Monday at Orangeburg Prep.
The Newberry Academy boys will be the top seed in the Upper State and will challenge Faith Christian tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Heathwood Hall.
The Eagles are coming off a region tournament championship victory Tuesday against Laurens Academy. The winner of tomorrow’s opening round game will get the winner of Miracle Academy and Patrick Henry Tuesday at Orangeburg Prep.
