A Newberry man was sentenced to 10 yeas for robbing the Love’s Truck Plaza in October.

Alphonso Mandrell Dewalt, 35, of 116 Little Ranches Road, Newberry, pleaded guilty in front of Circuit Court Judge George C. James Jr. to armed robbery and criminal conspiracy on July 30 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

On Oct. 15, Dewalt and co-defendant Julian Ray waited outside the Love’s Truck Plaza while the store manager was leaving for the night. As the store manager was entering his vehicle, the two men approached his car and demanded the cash box while pointing a pistol at the manager.

The two men only gained a store key and fled into the woods. Both men were captured short time later, according to Eighth Circuit Solicitor Jerry Peace.
