The Newberry Rotary Club donated books and bookcases to the Newberry County Literacy Foundation on Friday. Barbara Chapman, along with some campers and counselors from Wise Street Park’s Explorers summer camp, visited Rotary for the books presentation. Chapman says there were 30 campers in all, along with five counselors, including herself. The books and bookcases will go into the homes of the campers to keep encouraging reading and literacy. In fact, the club had a deal with TD Bank in Newberry to earn a dollar for every book read. One young camper read 10 books this summer and will go to the bank to start her own savings account with the money earned, according to Chapman.
