Rebeckah Hollowell was honored by the Lutheran Men in Mission of St. Philip’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on Sunday during the worship service.
Hollowell is a 2012 graduate of Mid-Carolina High and received the W.P. Hendrix Memorial Scholarship.
This scholarship is to be given annually to a member of St. Philip’s who has just graduated from high school and will continue his or her education in college.
The recipient must exemplify a Christian character, worship regularly with the congregation, be active in the work of the church and excel academically.
Hollowell is a daughter of John and Beverly Hollowell and was presented the scholarship by Dean Lominick, president of the Lutheran Men in Mission of St. Philip’s. She will attend Clemson University.
The scholarship is given in memory of W.P. Hendrix, who was an active member of St. Philip’s and the LMM.
Hendrix initiated the scholarship fund raising project by establishing, constructing and donating the aluminum can recycling center at the church.
The center has been a successful fundraiser due to congregational and community support and the generosity of the Hendrix family.
