One teen is hospitalized and another in jail after a shooting yesterday afternoon in the West End area.

Tyrus Jontel Simms, 18, of 108 Wiltshire Court, Newberry, has been charged with one count of assault and battery with intent to kill, two counts of assault with intent to kill and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Simms was in the area of Academy and Crosson streets at West End Park when he shot into a car with three people inside of it.

One bullet hit a 19-year-old female in the face causing significant damage to her mouth.

The female was in surgery earlier today and no updates on her condition were available. The gunshot wound was reportedly not life-threatening.

The shooting reportedly stemmed from an earlier altercation.

Simms, who turned 18 on Sunday, remains in custody.
