The details of a shooting late yesterday afternoon in West End are still sketchy but Newberry police have one suspect in custody.

The shooting occurred just before 5 p.m. yesterday at West End Park near the intersection of Crosson and Academy streets.

A woman was reportedly shot in the mouth. Police said although her injuries are not life-threatening, the victim suffered substantial damage to her mouth and face.

During the early evening hours, Newberry police canvassed the West End and Oakland areas looking for the suspect.

Police report one person is in custody in the case and charges against him are forthcoming.

At press time, officers were still working on the case and gathering details about the shooting.

As more information is available, it will be posted at www.newberryobserver.com.
