Opera glasses were exchanged and money was given Tuesday evening as the Newberry Opera House Guild wrapped up another year of working for the arts.
During the meeting the guild gave $15,000 to the Newberry Opera House.
The money will be used as needed to help the cost of running the facility.
Newberry Opera House Board Member Dr. John Wiseman said the money comes at a time when there is little money coming in from performances and expenses are still continuing.
Much of the money given on Tuesday represented the guild’s latest event, which was the Diamond and Denims event.
More than 170 tickets were sold to the gala which included supper, dancing and a silent auction.
Since the Newberry Opera House Guild was founded in 2004 the women have given $177,000 to the opera house.
Also during the event Susan Derrick retired as the groups president after serving two years in the position and Lana Brown retired as the group’s treasurer.
Peggy West was given the opera glasses as she takes over the role as the groups president.
