Now that the new library has opened, many are wondering what will happen with the old building up Friend Street. The issue is set for discussion Wednesday at County Council’s meeting.

Newberry County Historical and Museum Society members Randy Berry and Ernest Shealy are on the council’s agenda to discuss the future of the old site. The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the Courthouse Annex.

Also on the slate is an update on the progress of the Mid-Carolina Commerce Park located at I-26 and Highway 773 near Prosperity from Economic Development Director Teresa Powers.

The council will consider bids for a new roof for Piedmont Technical College on Wilson Road. The bids range from $98,000 to $178,500.

Set for a vote is third reading to continue to lease the old landfill site off Highway 219 as a skeet range, and rezoning less than two acres of land near Chapin from residential to commercial.

First reading on rezoning approximately 23 acres from rural to residential is also up for a vote.

The council will discuss dates for sessions to plan the 2009-2010 budget.
