Put on your jeans and get ready for a party to support the Newberry Opera House.

On Friday at 7 p.m. the Opera House Guild will have a Denims and Diamonds Party at The Friend Building, which is the old Thomas and Howard building at 901 Friend Street.

The party will include music to shag by and the oldies by Caesar and the Sugar Bees.

The menu includes shrimp by Ronnie’s, barbecue and roast beef by Steven W’s and the guild ladies will make deviled eggs and desserts.

There will also be beer and wine.

“Think of it as a night out with food, drinks and dancing,” said Newberry Opera Guild Committee Co-Chair Nita Chandler.

“We hope that the community will take this opportunity to join us in supporting the Newberry Opera House and the Opera House Guild. The party is sure to be an exciting evening full of fellowship, dancing, culinary delights and the opportunity to win a diamond from Turner’s Jewelers,” said Newberry Opera Guild Committee Co-Chair Christy Pomeroy.

“It will be a wonderful party,” said guild chair Susan Derrick.

This year’s party is dress in your jeans after the guild held a formal party last year, added Derrick.

She adds there will also be auction items and a chance to win a diamond from Turners.

The guild group, which is always looking for new members, raised $55,000 for the opera house in the past year-and-a-half.

“We raise a lot of money for a guild our size,” said Chandler.

In fact the guild hopes to double their fundraising efforts this year and have increase their giving since Derrick became president.

Like all guild events all the money made at the party will go to support the opera house and arts in the community.

After the event, all of the left over food will be donated to Boys Farm.

Tickets are $35 each and include entertainment, food and drinks.

Guests may purchase tickets from Newberry Opera House Guild members or purchase them from the box office at 276-6264
