A fight that began at the old skating rink at a college graduation party, appears to have led to a shooting at the Highway 34 Waffle House, and the arrest of a Newberry College senior, Terrance Maurice Spillers, 22, of 1984 Arbutus Ave., North Charleston.
Newberry College basketball players Matthew Oneil Alexander, 22, of 937 Carla Place, Norcross, Ga.; and Clemente Harvey Martin, 23, of 2100 College St., Newberry, had been previously listed as suspects in the case, but no charges will be filed against them according to the sheriff.
At 3:11 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a shooting incident at the Waffle House on S.C. Highway 34 at I-26 and deputies found that Antonio Lamond Gray, 26, of 896 Bush River Road, Newberry, had been shot in the back.
Foster said Gray underwent surgery and is still recovering at Palmetto Richland Hospital.
The victim was taken by private vehicle to Newberry County Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Richland County Memorial Hospital. Reports from the medical staff to deputies indicate that his injuries were not life-threatening, Foster said.
The party at the old skating rink on Highway 34, several miles from the Waffle House, was celebrating the imminent graduation of Spillers when a fight broke out.
