Clothing, canned goods and dinners will be given away in Helena this weekend as residents work to address increasing need.

Belmont Baptist Church in Silverstreet is heading up a clothing and canned goods giveaway Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Helena Community Center on Giff Street. From 10 a.m. until supplies run out, Brown Chapel A.M.E. missionaries will be giving away clothing.

Coordinator Lillie Werts says there are lots of warm jackets, sweaters and adult clothing, but not much for children.

Also at Brown Chapel A.M.E., the Hope and Faith Foundation will be hosting a Christmas dinner for the people who are sick, shut-in, homeless and less fortunate.

Coordinator Willa Brown says the menu includes baked and fried turkey, dressing, gravy, macaroni and cheese, green beans, peach cobbler, rolls and tea.

Goodie bags will be given to adults and children. Goodie bags for the children will include a stuffed animal.

Brown Chapel is located at 1279 Brown Chapel Drive, off Bush River Road near the Kendall Road Food Lion.
