Many brought donations for the Manna House food ministry on Hunt Street, and after settling in the pews, heard of God's goodness and gave thanks for His blessings.
Congregants followed an Episcopal liturgy, heard Bible readings from A.M.E. and Baptist reverends and preaching from a Presbyterian minister.
“We normally pick one church and have a Thanksgiving service for the whole community,“ said Janet Ward, a choir member of First Baptist Church.
“It's a combined effort tonight,“ said Huger Caughman Jr. from Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
A.R.P. Rev. Tony Locke spoke on Psalm 100, saying God said it's “a psalm for giving of thanks,“ as its header reads in the Bible.
“This is our main message: that there is a God and He has revealed Himself to the
world,“ said Locke. “God is good. Our sin doesn't wear out the love of God
