ORANGEBURG - Eva Elizabeth Dorrity Johnstone, 96, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008 at The Oaks in Orangeburg. Mrs. Johnstone was born in Newberry, a daughter of the late Benjamin Lewis Dorrity and Laura Etta Pearl Kannaday Dorrity. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women's Organization. Mrs. Johnstone was a member of the oyster club, and an avid golfer and bridge player. Mrs. Johnstone was the widow of Alan McC. Johnstone.
Surviving are three daughters, Eve W. (Bobby) Brown and Patricia Welling, all of Charleston, Lilla J. (Dale) Jones of Lubbock, Texas; son, Alan Johnstone of Orangeburg; sister, Ruth D. Gazes of Charleston; brother, B. Lewis Dorrity Jr. of Simpsonville; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A service of remembrance will be held today at 5:45 p.m. followed by visitation from 6-8 p.m. at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home. Burial is in Newberry's Johnstone Family Cemetery with a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008.
