Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Setzler Field and can be heard on WKDK 1240-AM. It will be the home finale for Newberry this season.
Newberry (4-4 overall, 3-2 South Atlantic Conference) enters this game in a three-way tie for third in the conference, with two games remaining.
Newberry is coming off a 45-33 loss last week at Tusculum. Lenior-Rhyne (3-6, 1-4) opened the season with a pair of wins, but has since lost six of seven, including four in a row. The Bears are coming off a 37-24 loss last week against Mars Hill.
The winner will claim the Bishops Trophy, which has been in Newberry's possession the past two years.
Wolverines wrap up regular season against McCormick
The Whitmire Community School football team will wrap up its regular season tonight when it hosts McCormick in a non-region game. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Den.
The Wolverines (5-4 overall, 3-1 Region II-A) can improve their seeding in the upcoming 1-A Division II Upper State playoffs with a victory. Whitmire will also have a close eye on a pair of other games in the area.
If Christ Church knocks off Landrum tonight, Whitmire will claim second-place outright, but if the Cardinals can pull the upset, the Wolverines will be in a three-way tie for the league title, but will more than likely claim third-place points. The Wolverines will also be helped if Mid-Carolina can knock off Newberry. A win for the Rebels would even their record at 5-5 and give Whitmire extra points since it lost to Mid-Carolina, a 2-A team, earlier in the season.
WCS tennis team moves on to second round
The Whitmire tennis team advanced to the second round of the 1-A Upper State playoffs by hammering Fox Creek 7-0 yesterday at home.
The Foxes managed to take just one game in the seven matches.
Whitmire singles players Jenna Baker, Faith Plemmons, Betsy Long, Lynlee Thompson and Deanna Willard all won by matching 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Thompson and Willard were victorious in top-seeded doubles play 6-0, 6-0, while second-seeds Dawn Weber and Jordan Suber won 8-1.
The Wolverines will face the winner of Landrum and McBee Tuesday at home.
