Newberry police have made one arrest and are searching for clues and another suspect in a Sunday night armed robbery.

A 20-year-old was sitting on the porch of his Third Street home when two black males approached him.

One of the robbers asked the man for a lighter. Both of the robbers then pointed handguns at the victim and knocked him to the ground.

The two then demanded money from the Third Street resident.

The victim gave the robbers his cell phone and wallet, which held a small amount of money.

The Third Street man was able to give police a description of one of the thieves.

As officers converged on the scene, they spotted a person matching the description, said Chief Jackie Swindler.

Police chased the suspect through several yards and over fences, catching him within minutes of the robbery.

Monday police arrested Zachary Arnes Curry, 24, of 4000 1/2 College St. on charges of armed robbery.

Police are still looking for the second suspect in the case and are asking anyone with information about the case to call 321-1010.
