Almost four years to the day her son died, a Chappells woman has been charged in the toddler's death.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has charged Renata M. Hill, 27, of 104 Bittersweet Road, Chappells, with unlawful neglect of a child. She was arrested in the case Wednesday.

According to an arrest warrant, Hill is accused of not seeking medical treatment for her 15-month-old son, Diquarious Gantt, on Oct. 24, 2004.

Gantt was injured when a steel door accidentally fell on top of him while the family was living at 1302 Pencreek Road in Saluda.

Hill is accused of not seeking medical care for the child.

Investigators believe the child died as a result of blunt force trauma to his head.

The Saluda County Sheriff's Office assisted SLED with the investigation.

Unlawful neglect of a child is a felony offense and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Additional arrests could be made in the case according to a press release from SLED.
