CHEER AND TACKLE
Flag football for ages 6-9 had its first game Oct. 11 and will play Saturdays at 10 a.m. for the next four weeks at Whitmire's high school football stadium.
The Stinger football league for ages 9-12 that plays in Union is finishing up its season and headed to the playoffs. Playoffs will be announced this week said Broom.
The Mite League, hosting players ages 8 and 9, is halfway through its season. The Mite League plays in Newberry.
“(Recreation league) football and cheerleading is going very, very well,” said Broom.
FUN AND FOOD APLENTY
Whitmire senior citizens boarded a Simpsonville tour bus and headed to Myrtle Beach Oct. 5.
The four-day trip included a movie by the pool, a 50's sock hop dance, a show at Dixie Stampede, line dance and shag lessons, crafts, bingo and plenty to eat.
“We ate and ate and ate,“ said Broom. “Every time we turned around it was time to go eat. If anyone went away hungry it was their own fault.”
Simpsonville Recreation extended an invitation for Whitmire's seniors to travel with its group again next year.
“It's just a fun time of fellowship,” said Broom. “They can do as much or as little as they want.”
“My mother-in-law attended it and she had a wonderful time,” said council member Harris. “I'm still hearing about it.”
