A Whitmire woman was airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center Friday evening after she was struck by a vehicle on the Whitmire Highway in Union County.
Dorothy L. Hueble, 46, of Whitmire, is in serious condition, a hospital spokeswoman said Sunday.
The accident occurred around 6:15 p.m. near the Delta Road intersection about 10 miles south of the Union city limits. Dr. John Flood with the Union County Fire and Rescue Squad was traveling on the Whitmire Highway and came up on the accident shortly after it occurred. He used his department radio to call for emergency personnel. Flood also attended to Hueble's injuries until Union County EMS arrived.
Lance Cpl. Brian McDougald, Highway Patrol spokesman, said William Huntsinger, 39, of Whitmire was traveling north in a 2002 Chevrolet pickup when he topped a hill and saw two women in his lane - Hueble and Renee Goins, 34, of Whitmire.
Huntsinger was unable to stop and his vehicle struck the women. Goins was not injured.
Huntsinger's vehicle then traveled off the roadway to the right and struck an illegally parked vehicle, a 1999 Saturn.
The speed limit in the area is 55 mph. McDougald said the Highway Patrol is still trying to determine Huntsinger's speed at the time of the accident.
The accident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed, McDougald said.
Witnesses said prior to being hit by the truck, Hueble was a passenger in the Saturn and those in the Saturn were arguing with people in another vehicle.
