A Prosperity man is wanted on charges of murder and home invasion in Union, and officials are asking for your help to locate him.

Derrick Ruff, 27, of 146

Grant Acres Way, Prosperity, has been charged with kidnapping, armed robbery, first

degree burglary and murder in the Aug. 18 shooting death of Kelvin Davis, a 19-year-old man from Union.

Patrick Troy Rice, 25, of 617 Evans St., Whitmire, was arrested and charged with murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and first degree burglary in the case on Aug. 26.

Rice and Ruff are believed to have been part of a group of men who invaded the home of Davis on Woodberry Drive in Union and shot Davis in the chest while his sister and two young nieces were in other rooms.

Allegedly, both Kelvin Davis and his sister, Tensslie, were held against their will before Davis was shot and killed. Tensslie Davis was tied up by the group of masked men.

Robbery is believed to be the motive in Davis' death as a box containing cash was taken.

Union Lt. Kenneth Riddle says he believes that after the murder Ruff fled to Georgia, but has since returned to the local area. Riddle believes that Ruff is in Newberry, Prosperity or Columbia and possibly with family or friends.

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said his office has received reports on Ruff being in the area but “nothing concrete.”

“We are taking calls and following up on leads either received by our office or Union County Sheriff Office,” Foster said. “Since it is their case, we are following their lead.”

Ruff goes by the names of Black Jesus or Black. He is 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs around 175 pounds.

Riddle also reminds residents that anyone who has helped Ruff evade the law could face charges.

Anyone spotting Ruff or that has knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately.
