It's good if your family is closely tied to a church and can use or rent the facility. Use church grounds for cookouts and sports activities, church halls for food preparation and board games and the sanctuary for Sunday worship.
Community Halls
Consider community centers for dinners, food prep and inside games. The Hunter family holds events at the old Pomaria Elementary School. Houseal says they asked for permission to rent the facility at a town council meeting.
Parks
For cookouts, picnics and outdoor games, and check out Newberry parks, but consider outdoor elements. The Hunter family used the Margaret Hunter Park for years, but Houseal says the hot weather and mosquitoes became too much for older family members.
