FAILED TO GRASP THE IMPORTANCE

Editor,

While being a member of the Humane Society, I am always happy to see story with an animal on the front page (Observer, Aug. 1), but I feel the paper has failed to grasp the importance of the Newberry Opera House's latest recognition award. (printed on page 2)

Our opera house has been singled out as the best in the nation...the Newberry Opera House is the best historic theatre in the entire United States, beating out more nationally notable and larger venues.

This is something to be very, very proud of, not only because it is our theatre here at home, but for the impact it will have on the economic development and our future.

Many thanks for your nice article covering the award, but in my opinion, the importance of the award deserved front page news.

Sincerely,

Karen Short
