According to reports from the Sheriff's Office, several people were gathered at 924 Gray St. in Helena Saturday morning around 1 a.m.
Sheriff Lee Foster says all of the people knew each other and were hanging out when “a supposed playful exchange of words and insults began.“
The victim told deputies that during the exchange, he placed his hand in his pocket and removed it, and as he did $300 fell from his pocket. The victim said Willie Eddie Hiller, also known as “Badman”, 35, of 924 Gray St., Newberry, attempted to take the money and that a fight between he and Hiller ensued. The victim also told deputies that Hiller was then aided by two other men Theodore Jackson, 17, of 2534 Rosalyn Dr., Newberry, and Vincent Anthony Pitts, of 2818 Clyde Ave., Newberry.
The victim told officers as he ran from the scene, Hiller shot him in the upper left arm with an unknown caliber pistol.
The victim's injuries were not life threatening.
“He told police that the men took his money and his cell phone during the incident,“ said Foster.
Deputies and investigators combed the Helena community looking for evidence and attempted to locate the suspects.
“During the search, deputies located Jackson and he was taken into custody,“ said Foster.
The deputies were unable to locate the other two men and believed they have fled the area.
Just before 9:30 this morning, Hiller and Pitts turned themselves in and were arrested by deputies.
The weapon has not yet been located.
Foster says all three suspects will be charged with armed robbery and assault and battery with intent to kill. Bond hearings for the three have not yet been scheduled.
At press time, the identity of the victim had not been released by the Sheriff's Office.
