With the candidacy-filing deadline over at noon Friday, only incumbents have signed up to run for the three open seats on the City of Newberry City Council.

Foster Senn, Gregg Summer and David Dubose, representing District 2, 4 and 6 respectively, have listed their names to be on the ballot for the Sept. 9 election.

An extended 14-day waiting period for write-in candidates interested in council seats will last until July 25 until 5 p.m.

The six city council seats last 4-year terms and each represent a district within the city. The terms are staggered with seats 2, 4 and 6 are open for reelection this year and seats 1, 3, 5 and the mayorship open for reelection in 2010.

There is no limit on how many terms the mayor or council members can hold a position. Candidates must be a qualified voter and live in the district they hope to represent.

The filing period was open for two weeks beginning at noon on June 27.
