Incumbent Mike Hawkins and retired police officer Kirksey Koon will face each other in the run-off election Tuesday.
Hawkins came up with 115 votes in the June 10 primary, followed by Koon with 96 and former councilman Wyman Cook with 54.
To win the primary, a candidate must get one vote more than 50 percent of the total votes cast. Hawkins received 43 percent, Koon 36 percent and Cook 20 percent.
Every registered voter in District 4 can vote in the election, except for those that voted in the republican primary.
The District includes voters in the Prosperity, Newberry Ward 3, Hartford, Johnston, Mid-Way, Pomaria, Stoney Hill, and Saint Phillips/Jolly Street polling places.
The district also is in part of the Little Mountain and Newberry Ward 4 polling place, but there are no registered voters in District 4 in these precincts.
Pollard, Thomas to run in republican primary for coroner
Three men have filed to run for coroner, forcing a republican primary on July 1.
Republicans John Pollard and Michael Thomas will face each other in a primary on that day.
The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Every registered voter can cast a ballot in the special republican primary.
The winner of the republican primary will go on to face democratic challenger Craig Newton in the November general election.
The special election is being held as a result of the death of Chief Deputy Coroner Tommy Hedgepath. Hedgepath was the lone candidate for the election, but passed away before the primary election. The attorney general's office ruled that both parties could open their books for the vacant seat.
Current long-time Coroner James Smith decided that he would not seek re-election.
