RUFUS E. SWITTENBURG

NEWBERRY - Mr. Rufus Eugene Swittenburg, 54, of 824 Drayton St., Newberry, died Thursday at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Born in Newberry County, he was the son of the late Emory Swittenburg and the late Mary Frances Bookman Swittenburg.

He was a member of Mount Hebron A.M.E. Church and the Sons of Aid Society.

He was employed as crew supervisor at Georgia Pacific Corporation in Prosperity.

Surviving are his devoted wife, Mattie Swindler Swittenburg, of the home; two sons, Derrick L. Swittenburg and Rufus E. Swittenburg Jr. of Newberry; one daughter, Ja Lisa L. Swittenburg of Newberry; one step-daughter, Tanisha Swittenburg of Newberry; one grandson, Jamie Williams Jr.; two sisteres, Mary Nell Wise and Mattie Bookman (Furman) of Prosperity; 13 brothers, John Williams Swittenburg of Pomaria, Emory Swittenburg (Hattie Mae) of Newberry, Johnny Swittenburg (Sarah) and Raymond Swittenburg of Little Mountain, Gregory Swittenburg (La Shonda) of Prosperity, Heyward Swittenburg, Randolph Swittenburg (Patricia) and Kenneth Swittenburg of Newberry, Stanley Swittenburg of Greenville, Gene Swittenburg (Barbara) of Newberry, Larry Bookman of Pomaria, Benjamin Brown of Newberry and Marcus Brown of Prosperity; 11 aunts; seven uncles; mother-in-law, Mattie Swindler of Newberry; father-in-law, Willie Swindler Jr.; four brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services and burial will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Mount Hebron A.M.E. Church in Prosperity, with viewing one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home of Newberry.
