April is Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month. Please remember that our furry friends are just that, friends, not to be willfully hurt, abused or neglected.
Always care for your beloved pets as part of your family and not as “throw aways.” They love you unconditionally and will always love you, because that's what they do. Please care for them, make sure they have all their annual checkups and vaccinations, and always be sure to give them your time.
When storms are in the area, please remember those furry friends who are outside and they are scared too. Show them you really care. Always remember to show affection, as they show you, unconditionally, every day. You can add a smile to a dog's face (just watch his tail wagging) and you can make a cat happy (just listen to the purrs). They don't ask for much, but give so much in return.
If you know of someone or see someone abusing an animal, please report them to the authorities. That's what our furry friends need, is our help and protection.
The Newberry County Humane Society passes along information to the local schools and libraries so children (as well as adults) can appreciate animals, as they were meant to be appreciated. Our programs, books, literature, are just a small way to spread the word and keep everyone aware of our precious furry friends.
If you would like to join our small group or help in some way, we meet every second Monday of the month at St. Luke's Parish House on Main Street, Newberry, at 7 p.m.
Or you can reach us by mail:
