The Whitmire baseball team's miraculous seventh-inning rally ended with a thud as Christ Church held on for an 11-10 victory Friday in Greenville.

The Wolverines fall to 3-10 overall and 1-3 in Region II-A.

The Cavaliers carried a 9-3 lead into the seventh inning, before Whitmire began its comeback with two outs.

The Wolverines scored seven runs, all with two outs, to take an improbable 10-9 lead into the home half of the inning.

Christ Church responded with two runs in the seventh to escape with the victory.

Desmond Harp was saddled with the loss, his second of the season.

Harp had a huge game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI.

The Wolverines stayed with the Cavaliers early in the game, before starting pitcher Stan Whitmire was knocked out of the game after taking a line drive off his leg.

Christ Church scored four runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth.

“We lost focus when Stan got hurt,” Whitmire coach Chris Martin said. “I am proud of our comeback and our don't quit attitude there in the seventh. This coming week is big for us in the playoff push. We will be working on developing some consistency.”

The Wolverines will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Southside Christian.
