M-C downs Emerald, hosts B-L in huge game tomorrow

The Mid-Carolina baseball team picked up a huge region win 5-4 at Emerald last night.

The win pushes the Rebels record to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in Region III-2A play. They are currently a game ahead of Batesburg-Leesville for the lead in the region, and will face the Panthers at home tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Cody Page picked up the complete-game victory after having runners in scoring position in the final inning. Seth Chick came up with the eventual game-winning RBI in the top of the seventh.

Mid-Carolina will be back in action tonight when it travels to King Academy for a non-region game.

Cardinals blank WCS, 10-0

The Whitmire baseball team was routed by Region II-A rival Landrum 10-0 in six innings last night at home.

The loss drops the Wolverines to 1-8 for the season.

“We did not bring our ‘A' game tonight and (Landrum) made us pay,” Whitmire coach Chris Martin said. “I thought we took a step back at the plate.”

Alex Wilson got the complete-game victory for the Cardinals, and went 3-for-3 with two doubles at the plate.

Stan Whitmire took the loss on the mound.

The Wolverines will be back in action tonight when they travel to Newberry for a 7 p.m. contest.

Eagles' golf remains perfect in conference

The Newberry Academy golf team knocked off Anderson Christian and Laurens Academy yesterday in Anderson.

The wins improved the Eagles' record in conference play to 5-0.

Matthew West was a medalist in the meet with a score of 41. Carey Sligh carded a 43, while Evan Goldman shot a 45. Chris Smith rounded out the day for the Eagles with a round of 47.

Newberry Academy will travel to Aiken for a tri-meet against Aiken Prep and Long Cane Academy today.

Panthers edge ‘Dogs, 7-2

The Newberry High baseball team slipped to 0-3 in Region III-2A play with a 7-2 loss at Batesburg-Leesville last night.

Randal Suber was saddled with the loss. Korey Ahrens, Codie Dickert and Erik Little all went 2-for-4 in the game.

Newberry will be back in action when it hosts Whitmire tonight at 7 p.m.

Newberry golf slips past M-C

The Newberry golf team edged Mid-Carolina 160-184 yesterday at Mid-Carolina Country Club.

Martin Summer led the Bulldogs with a round of 38, while Mid-Carolina's Zackary Sherman carded a 39.

Rebels softball shuts out Vikings, 7-0

The Mid-Carolina softball team knocked off Emerald 7-0 last night in Greenwood.

The Rebels are now 2-1 in the region and tied for first place. Charlene Hester and Lori Fulmer each went 2-for-3 in the game. Allyson Kinard got the victory on the mound.

The Rebels will be back in action tonight when they host Dutch Fork in a non-region contest.

Game time is set for 6 p.m.
