Recently the State of South Carolina has seen the openings of the chief executives in many of the major law enforcement agencies that fall under the jurisdiction of the state government. Currently there are openings in the Department of Public Safety, the S.C. Highway Patrol and the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
Many people have questioned if I had been offered one of these positions or was leaving to take a position with Homeland Security. I recently was approached by a lady wanting to know if my family would be leaving to go to Washington, D.C. with me when I began a new position.
While I am extremely flattered that people in Newberry County believe I am qualified to work in these lofty agencies, I am not interested in these positions. I have no interest in leaving. I feel that my calling and mission are right here in the county which I was reared and the place that I deeply love. Since 911, my staunch philosophy is that you can't have homeland security without hometown security. This is where my interests are and this is where I am keenly focused.
When I first ran for Sheriff many people said I would not be here long because I would go on to other positions. Almost 20 years later I am still here and still working for you every day. I am committed and dedicated to the job that you have entrusted to me.
I do not have plans on retiring either. Although I have almost 30 years of law enforcement experience, I am still young and have the drive to continue working in the profession that I have literally invested my blood, my tears, my joys and my life.
The citizens of Newberry County have blessed me with what I consider to be the best job in law enforcement-your local sheriff. It is my desire to remain in this position as long as the people of Newberry County will allow.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide this information to the people of Newberry County.
Sincerely yours in effective law enforcement,
Lee Foster, Sheriff
