A teen was arrested yesterday afternoon for breaking into two Newberry homes Monday.
Around lunchtime on Monday, the 16-year-old allegedly broke into houses on Silas and Milligan streets.
He broke the glass on the front door at the Milligan Street home and entered the house. He was then able to enter the Silas Street house by breaking in a front window, according to Newberry Police Captain Chuck Counts.
A witness saw the teen leaving the Silas Street house on his bike, and reported it to police, said Counts. Police used forensic evidence to link the teen, who does not attend school, to the Milligan Street burglary.
In both cases, the teen is charged with stealing jewelry and money.
The youth was arrested at his home 24 hours after the burglary. During a search of the home, police recovered some of the items taken in the burglaries.
Newberry police investigators were still questioning the teen yesterday afternoon. Police were also working with the Eighth Circuit Solicitor's Office to have the teen charged as an adult.
Charges are expected to include two counts of second degree burglary and one count of grand larceny.
