Meeting halls were packed solidly with citizens through the first few months of the year as the actions of county leaders regarding reassessment and the budget were questioned and watched.
County Council enacted new laws to allow taxes to be paid in two installments, to increase allotments for homestead exemptions and made cuts for a tax roll-back, which was paid this summer.
Many watched as County Council made its budget plans. Residents saw the county's slice of the pie increase about $17 for homes valued at $100,000 on their next tax bills.
The state legislature did offer some property tax relief by increasing sales taxes by 1 cent and deleting school operating taxes from owner-occupied residential property tax bills.
