Coats and housing are two of the biggest needs for a family of seven that was burned out of their home on Wednesday.
The family was sleeping around a space heater when their house caught on fire around 2 a.m.
The American Red Cross has put the family up in a local hotel, but they have to find a place to live by Saturday.
Firefighters with the Newberry Fire Department are making calls today to look for rental space for the family, which includes five children.
“We are looking for rental property for them. When we find a place, we have already gotten a table and chairs, a love seat, two beds, and food for them,” said Chief Joe Palmer.
None of the family members have a coat and those are needed.
“What they need is clothes,” he added.
The family consists of a mother, who works second shift at Louis Rich and a father, who works at Sea Pro. The female children are ages 13 and 16 and the males are 6, 11 and 16.
Sizes needed are:
Mother - median shirt, size 8 pants, and a size six shoe.
Father - large shirt, 32 pants and shoe size 6 1/2.
Female teen - median shirt, size 14-16 pants and shoe size 7.
Male - large shirt, pants size 17-18 and size 6 to 7 shoes.
Female teen - median shirt, size 13 to 15 pants and size 3 shoe.
Male - large shirt, size 12 pants and size 3 shoe.
Six-year-old male - youth large shirt, size 10 pants and kids size 10 to 12 shoes.
Also needed are Christmas gifts for the family.
Donations for the group can be dropped off at either of the Newberry fire departments located on Wilson Road and Nance Street.
