Do something for yourself- stay in the county

We do a lot of moaning in this county about how there is not a lot for youth to do. Heck, our opinion poll earlier this month was about what sort of entertainment/retail space was needed most in the area, and there were many polltakers who wished to answer “all.” But the next couple of weekends it is time to stop moaning and be thankful that you are going to save some gas money because there is so much going on around this county that the trouble is in the picking.

The county museum is open this weekend for its annual holiday tour. Check it out. Some folks questioned what the organization was about when looking over the allocation of tourism tax dollars last year. Now is the perfect opportunity to see the collection this group has been building and the historic buildings they are working to house it in. See today's front page story.

And in case you missed it, Wednesday's paper was chock full of parade roundups and holiday shows being put on by community members from downtown Newberry to Peak, Whitmire and Prosperity. Bands and choruses from the schools are tuning up for their holiday performances making almost too many opportunities to list to get in the spirit of the season.

This county is stepping out for the holidays, and it would be a shame not to support all the hard work and talent our neighbors put on display at this time of year. To kick off December let's stay in the next couple weeks-in the county that is-and show support to our community organizers and get a head start on gift giving by shopping local stores and bazaars. After all, during the holidays everyone says you should make sure to take some time for yourselves.
