The Department of Health and Environmental Control will address the public in Whitmire this evening in regards to recent concerns over environmental hazards.

A call to Whitmire's Town Hall and information from Whitmire resident Maria McMurtury revealed the meeting is to be about DHEC's findings on the reportedly high number of gall bladder surgeries in the area. Calls to DHEC for further information were unsuccessful due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Flags were raised last year after McMurtury and other town residents reported their personal concerns to DHEC. The last meeting DHEC held in Whitmire was in March of this year. Employees were present to field questions and gather more information.

Tonight's stakeholder meeting is scheduled for 6 pm. at the Whitmire Community Center.
