A local thrift shop is serving the needs of the community while giving customers a big bang for their buck.

The Living Hope Foundation opened the doors of its new thrift store on Louis Rich Road Friday and Saturday.

Crowds flocked to the store and grabbed up items ranging from clothing to kitchen gadgets to furniture to toys to decorative items.

Pants are for the taking at 50 cents each while dresses cost only a dollar. Many kitchen items cost just a dime. Televisions and computer monitors had prices of less than $20 while toys are less than a dollar.

The money raised by the thrift shop will go back into the community to support programs such as the Daily Bread Food Bank, a counseling center, youth education center and health awareness programs. The foundation offers counseling in adolescent pregnancy prevention, employment preparedness and basic financial planning.

Donations to the thrift store are also being taken any Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and donations can be arranged by calling 276-8383. Tax receipts will be given to those making donations.

The thrift store is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Executive Director John Glasgow adds that the store is also in need of volunteers.
