This time last year, tales of Newberry ghosts were documented in written word in “Ghosts of the Upstate” by John Boyanoski. And the Greenville author is already working towards another book.
This time of year, ghost stories abound, and Boyanoski is counting on his readers to share the spooky tales. The author said that feedback from his first book has been tremendous, and many readers asked why their stories had been left out. The second book is his solution.
“Finding the stories for that first book was a lot of work,” Boyanoski said. “The second one has been a lot easier.”
Publisher Derik Shelor said that Boyanoski heard many local stories at book signings last year, and in upcoming signings he's encouraging the public to share more.
“Over and over, people came up to John at the stores and asked him why he had left their ghost out,” Shelor said. “He usually left with a story or two he hadn't heard before.”
Boyanoski will be signing books this Halloween season at events throughout the area. He's hoping to take these opportunities to collect new stories, possibly for use in his new book to be released by next Halloween. “Ghosts of the Upstate” is currently on sale for $14.99.
His next signing will be Thursday in Greenwood at the Boo Bash at McCaslan's Bookstore from 4 to 6 p.m. Boyanoski will then spend Friday and Saturday in Greenville with a signing at Borders Express at Haywood Mall from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and on Saturday at The Open Book on South Pleasantburg Road at 2 p.m.
