A card game led to two people being shot in Newberry on Friday night.

The two were shot at a home on Bedenbaugh Street around 11 p.m., according to Police Chief Jackie Swindler.

Swindler said several people were playing cards and an argument began.

One of the suspects, James Glymph Jr., 29, of Charles Street, Newberry, went home and got a gun and returned to Bedenbaugh Street, witnesses said.

Glymph then began shooting at Dexter Cromer, 29, of Brown Chapel Road, Newberry. Dexter Cromer's brother, Ryan Cromer, 26, of Charles Street, Newberry, then began to shoot at Glymph, said Swindler.

All three men had guns, but police are not sure if Dexter Cromer had an opportunity to fire his.

Swindler said Glymph was injured by gunfire and drove himself away from the scene before seeking help from a police officer who was in front of the Opera House.

At the same time Glymph was flagging down the officer, 911 operators received a call about Dexter Cromer being shot on Bedenbaugh Street.

Dexter Cromer was reportedly shot four to five times in different parts of his body.

Ryan Cromer was not injured.

Dexter Cromer was airlifted to Palmetto Richland Hospital, while James Glymph was taken by ambulance to the Columbia hospital.

Ryan Cromer was arrested on Friday night and charged with assault and battery with intent to kill.

Glymph was released from the hospital on Saturday, questioned by police and arrested on Sunday. He is also charged with assault and battery with intent to kill.

At press time, Dexter Cromer remained in the hospital and will likely be charged once he is released, said Swindler, adding he does not think Dexter Cromer has life-threatening injuries.

Swindler said the case is still under investigation and more charges are possible.
