Kadeem Rashad Johnson, 20, of 88 Strothers Road, Blair, and Christopher Vernard Martin, 18, of 2014 Buckhead Road, Blair, were arrested Monday and charged with accessory to murder. Johnson was also charged with criminal conspiracy. Leonardo Subastain O’Neal Jr., 21, of 12186 Highway 213, Jenkinsville, was arrested Sunday and charged with murder, attempted armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.
Tuesday, investigators arrested Xavier Darnell Wadlington, 20, of Pearson Road, Blair. He is charged with criminal conspiracy and investigators said other charges are pending.
Also arrested Tuesday were two men and a juvenile, all of Newberry County. The 16-year-old juvenile is being charged as an adult with murder, attempted armed robbery and criminal conspiracy; however, the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the juvenile’s name at this time.
Christopher Shavone Williams, 18, of Drayton Street, Newberry, is charged with murder, attempted armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.
Theory Patrick Maybin II, 17, of Meadow View Lane, Newberry, is also charged with murder, attempted armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.
Newberry County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested 21-year-old Demonta Ramone Ruff of First Street in Newberry around 5 p.m. Thursday. Investigators said they intend to charge Ruff with murder, criminal conspiracy, attempted armed robbery and first-degree burglary. Ruff is also wanted by Newberry police on assault and battery charges from March.
The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office has not released the name of the suspect they believe actually pulled the trigger in Sunday’s home invasion. Investigators said the string of arrests began after interviewing members of the community and following up on several leads. More details of the investigation will be released after all arrests in the case have been made.
Wright was found dead in his home at 311 Dave Cole Road by a family member Sunday afternoon. Investigators described the scene as an apparent home invasion gone wrong and said the intruders did not intend for it to turn into murder. But Wright was armed, investigators said, and the intruders got spooked and shots were fired.
They then fled the scene without stealing anything.
Wright was reportedly last seen alive leaving his business, Wright’s Grocery, at the corner of Dave Cole and Cole Trestle Road, around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Wright had operated the business for 30 years and was known to carry large amounts of cash around in his pockets.
Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said those arrested from Newberry County were connected with gang activity in both counties.
The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office assisted Fairfield in the investigation and arrests.
