If you have ever buckled a child into a child safety seat in your car and then thought to yourself, “I am just not sure I put that in correctly,” then the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office has just the program for you.
The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office will sponsor a free child safety seat check point Friday in the parking lot of the sheriff’s office located at 520 Wilson Road in Newberry from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Deputies will be on hand to inspect child safety seats and make sure they are properly installed.
The inspection only takes a few minutes but could save your child’s life if you are ever involved in a traffic collision, according to Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster.
The program is another effort from the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office to become more than just reactive to crime. The department wants to become a community partner to make Newberry County a better, safer place and to protect future generations.
Deputies conducting the inspections will undergo 24 hours of classroom training leading up to the inspection and will be eager to apply their neawly learned skills for the betterment of the public under the watchful eyes of their instructors.
If you have any questions about the inspections, call the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office at 321-2211.
The sheriff encourages people to come out for five minutes to make sure your young children are safe as they travel.
“Those five minutes may well give your child a lifetime,” said Foster.
