Locals to Olympics

Three members of The Newberry Junior Pistol Club, Jessica Chapman, Brandy Blanton and Sean Blanton, along with over 100 other top shooters from all over the U.S. traveled to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs to compete in the U.S. Junior Olympic Pistol Championship.

They were unable to medal, but they were all able to finish in the top 10.

Jessica Chapman was able to shoot a career best and finish 10th in air pistol. Brandy Blanton was able to finish 15th in air pistol and Sean Blanton finished 16th in air pistol.

Brandy Blanton and Sean Blanton also competed in 22cal. sport pistol.

Sean Blanton was able to finish fifth and Brandy Blanton finished seventh in sport pistol.

The competition spanned five days and the Newberry shooters performed well despite struggling with adjusting to the arid climate and high altitude.

The shooters would like to thank their families and friends who supported them throughout the competition. participation was due in part to the support of The Friends of NRA Foundation, Gun Owners of S.C., and the S.C. Arms Collectors Association.
