Bookworms will be able to start a new chapter in their reading careers Sunday afternoon as the library holds its grand opening.

The grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new 22,300 square foot library will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

During the event, Friends of the Library members will be giving tours of the $4.5 million facility.

The single-story building features a dome skylight, children’s section, youth section, reference section, South Carolina history room and an adult section. The library also has a computer section where users can, among other functions, gain access to the Internet.

Speakers for the opening include past County Council Chair Henry Summer, S.C. State Librarian David Goble, Senator Ronnie Cromer and State Representative Walt McLeod.

Refreshments will be served at the event.

The new library is located on Friend Street, two blocks down from the former library toward Nance Street. McKibben Street now dead-ends onto the property.

The local library closed its doors during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday and moved into the new facility.
