LITTLE MOUNTAIN — Mayor Jana Jayroe presented interior designer Jeanette Thomas plans for the renovations to the Derrick Community Center, during a special called meeting.

Jayroe showed Thomas that a room was missing on the plans.

“The County wants to get rid of it, but we don’t want to,” Jayroe said.

Councilman Marty Frick said that the reasoning behind needing the room is because the room has a mop and utility sink and a hot water heater, things that are needed in the center.

“If we get rid of that, the kitchen will be unserviceable almost, it’s so small,” he said.

Jayroe added that without it, they won’t have everything that is required by DHEC.

“If we eventually want to do more with the kitchen, then we have to have all of this and I don’t see any reason to tear it apart,” she said.

Frick added that members of Council would like to have a multi-functional meeting room, which is what the Genealogical Club also had in mind. Jayroe said that the club will need a lockable space for their items and information.

Other changes the Council discussed with Thomas included the need for computer space and having Internet access in the center and possibly extending a wall without disturbing the floor plans.

“To go a step further and to gain more space, we could, if we are going to move that wall, then we can extend a wall and still have the same number of tables and computers,” Frick said.

Frick added that the space is desired so that the Town of Little Mountain can hold events, like Governmental Association meetings, or presentations where guests can come and have a sit-down meal.

“Any place that we can squeeze out storage, we will take it, and we’ll also need to have a place for a copier and regular library stuff,” Jayroe said.
