NEWBERRY — Newberry County Water and Sewer Authority Manager Brent Richardson updated the Board on projects that are currently in progress at NCWSA, including that the Lake Murray Water Treatment Plant is running well.

“We’re at a fairly high capacity this time of year, so that’s a good thing,” said Brent Richardson, NCWSA manager. “It means we’re selling water. The operators are also utilizing the new lab.”

He added that NCWSA had a good month in water distribution with no main line breaks for the month of September. Two new water services have been installed and three commercial meters with back-flow devices were replaced, he said.

There were no updates regarding the Macedonia Church Road Line Relocation Project or Creekside Drive Sewer Extension (Bedford Way Subdivision.)

Richardson reported that the Cannons Creek Wastwater Treatment Facility is running well, despite a mixer in need of repair.

NCWSA’s wastewater collection department reported no main line breaks. Pump station repairs include: Jalapa Road, Macedonia Church Road and Lake Murray Water Treatment Plant. One new sewer service was installed for the month of September, Richardson said.

NCWSA Assistant Manager Daniel Quattlebaum presented the financial report for the month.

“Water revenue for the month came in at $289,239. Water expense came in at $193,612 for the result of $95,627,” Quattlebaum said.

Sewer revenue brought in a total of $88,210 against $77,304 for a total of $10,906.

“We’re slightly ahead on sewer revenue and pacing right along with sewer expense,” Quattlebaum said.

Other business included Richardson updating the Board on USDA funding update for Newberry Shores/Bedford Way. Richardson and the Board also recapped the SCSP – Educational Conference they attended on Oct. 11-13, mentioning which speakers they enjoyed and what they took away from the conference.

The Board reviewed their Employee Handbook and made modifications to verbage within the handbook.

Board member Lewis Lee made the motion to adopt a resolution amending the pre-treatment ordinance for NCWSA. The motion was seconded by Board member Bryan Alvarez.
