NEWBERRY — The Newberry College men’s soccer team defeated The University of Mount Olive 3-2 Wednesday afternoon. The game was the Wolves’ last home game of the season.

The score was set at 0-0 until 22 minutes in when Mario Stojkoski put the Wolves on the board first. Stojkoski shot a firecracker from 25 yards out hitting the far bottom corner. Davis Bryan picked up the assist

Newberry extended its lead five minutes later with a goal from Ky Tyler. Bryan tallied his second assist by finding Tyler in the box.

The Wolves had a 2-0 lead going into the second half. For the half, Newberry took eight shots compared to the Trojans’ six. Brad Dixon made three saves in goal.

The Trojans got onto the board seven minutes into the second half off a rebound. Nikolai Iotov took a shot with Davis saving it by hitting it away but Hunter Gregory came in strong from the right side to finish the rebound.

Mount Olive then tied the game 2-2 at the 80:14 mark with a goal from Malick Chune’s penalty kick.

With just six minutes left in the game Cammy Provan scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Sterling Wendt. Provan hammered it home off a low cross from Wendt from about six yards out.

For the game, Mount Olive outshot Newberry 19-11 while Dixon tallied nine saves in goal for the Wolves. Stojkoski led the team in shots with four and shots on goal with three.

The Wolves play their last game of the season on the road on Saturday, October 31 against Lenoir-Rhyne. The game will start at 3:30 p.m.
